Most visitors typically begin their experience with their cars, but there are many opportunities to visit The Gorge without it, eliminating the need to find parking, wait in lines or worry about supplies. Several shuttle services exist in the area, beginning with the Columbia Gorge Express. This excellent transit service is an extremely economical option, offering daily bus service between Portland, Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks and Hood River. There is a stop in Troutdale, but it must be arranged one day in advance by calling (541) 386-4202.
