Troutdale and The Gorge: Outdoor Adventure at its Finest!
Troutdale is the Gateway to The Gorge and a starting point for all the fabulous outdoor recreation to be found along the Columbia River. While travelers experience unique viewpoints as they leave Troutdale to the East, like the Waterfall Corridor amidst continuous jaw-dropping vistas, Troutdale itself is a destination for the active outdoor enthusiast.
Aerial tours by local providers display a view of The Gorge unlike any other while keeping to the water offers tremendous fishing among the soaring canyon walls.
Camping, hiking, backpacking, cycling and horse riding along the trails and the forests of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and Mt. Hood National Forest await those seeking the quiet many nature lovers seek, while they beckon to those wishing to start their own tourism-related outdoors business. Relaxing afternoons or day trips are afforded along the Sandy River and in Troutdale’s numerous city parks.
Many of the parks and recreation areas surrounding Troutdale require a parking or day-use pass — but which pass you need depends on who manages the site. Before you head out, check whether your destination falls under Oregon State Parks, Washington State Parks, or the U.S. Forest Service, so you're prepared with the right pass when you arrive.
The Gateway to the Gorge Visitor Center does not offer recreation passes other than timed-use permits for Multnomah Falls.
Day passes and annual passes are available online through the links below or in person:
- Oregon State Parks — Buy in person at staffed Oregon State Parks and many on-site pay stations
- Washington State Discover Pass — Buy in person at Beacon Rock State Park, select licensing vendors, and other Washington State Parks locations
- Northwest Forest Pass — Buy in person at the Plaid Pantry in Troutdale, the Clackamas River Ranger Station in Sandy, and the Zigzag Ranger Station (the America the Beautiful Pass also covers federal sites under this pass)
