Not every present is found under the tree. For Sugarpine Drive-In Restaurant, unwrapping a national accolade from the New York Times may be hard to top. The eatery, sought out by locals and visitors alike for its decadent sundaes and other indulgently fresh foods, earned national recognition for its Cherries Jubilee Sundae as one of “The 26 Best Dishes We Ate Across the U.S. in 2024.”
The seasonal treat made the list as one of only two Oregon restaurants and two ice cream desserts to be ranked as the most memorable dishes tasted nationwide by the publication’s reporters and editors over the past year.
In a recent interview with KOIN 6 News, Sugarpine Drive-In co-founder Ryan Domingo said the sundae is a “cherry month” special of their July menu, featuring almond, saffron, classic French pastry, Northwest sweet cherries and, of course, vanilla ice cream. Frequently updated specials represent a dedication to the Pacific Northwest, featuring locally grown, seasonal produce, where every visit has the potential for a different and exciting serving.
Notable sundae; iconic location
The Sugarpine Drive-In can be found 20 minutes east of Portland in Troutdale’s Glenn Otto Park alongside the Sandy River. The beautiful location at the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge complements the phenomenally crafted and thoughtful dishes, making Sugarpine an absolute must-stop destination on the West Gorge Food Trail. Originally built as a gas station in the 1920s to service travelers driving along the Historic Columbia River Highway, Sugarpine has continued the tradition through its iconic family drive-in experience today.
